About us

Welcome to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran of Washington, DC.

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Ps. 119:105

The Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Washington DC has been a center of Christian and Latvian fellowship for more than 60 years. It is a member of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (LELBA). Services and most events are conducted in Latvian. All are warmly invited to worship service and other events.

The church's mission is symbolized in its logo. The church is a tree rooted in cultural heritage, which has through the cross of Christ grown and borne fruit for fifty years. The Latvian symbol is found directly under the cross in the stained glass window behind the altar; it is visible under the altar. There is always room for more branches and for the fruit of the future. Culture and faith mingle in church events, such as the celebration of Latvian Independence Day on November 18 and other cultural and church holidays; in outreach to Latvia and around the world; in concerts and other cultural events; in the church-run Latvian school; and in the casual chats around the coffee table after services.
